New Intermediate Coffee Skills Course Launched
Coffee education changes according to the needs of the public. As coffee 'literacy' (knowledge) increases among a thirsty public interested in single origin harvests, roasting practices and alternative brewing methods, so too do baristas become increasingly interested in developing their skills. We have also noticed that many Perth baristas are increasingly focused on upskilling and, moreso than ever, spend extra time working on their brewing and workflow skills. As a result, we spent six months in the first half of 2011 working on a brand new Intermediate Coffee Skills Course for our clients. Its launch by Head Barista Rie Loy was a big success, with feedback extremely positive.
Course Overview
This will enhance your perceptions of the working flows of a real cafe` environment and get you confident on adjusting the grinder and manual dosing. In this class we will look at how to incorporate the new skills you have learned in the Introduction to Specialty Coffee course, setting up a work station that will allow you to work at a productive speed. We can help you to manage a high density of orders while still producing coffee of a high standard. We will teach you the importance of the grinder, how to adjust it, how to deal with various types of orders, and how to manage working with various types of milk in the one order. The biggest strength of this class is that all who partake are given as much hands on time with the machines as possible. To complete this course, you must have already completed the Introduction to Specialty Coffee course.

Introduction to Specialty Coffee
This course, the first of its type in Western Australia, replaces our former 'Coffee Basics' course, with a renewed focus on how coffee is roasted and blended, with a focus on the journey of coffee from seed to cup. The course will equip participants to appreciate different European inspired coffee blends, and taste a range of freshly roasted, premium coffee beans and blends. Participants will learn to extract the perfect espresso, and gain an understanding of how to appreciate it using all the senses. Our course participants will be able to pass this knowledge on to customers, and share their passion for excellent coffee!
The Braziliano SuperBarista Coffee Education Facility is one of the largest of its types, fully equipped with a range of commercial espresso machines to ensure each participant gains plenty of hands on practice with the assistance of expert trainers. Basic milk texturing techniques are also taught in this course. Participants are encouraged to attend the Intermediate and Latte Art courses in order to further develop their skills.
Braziliano has been roasting coffee in the heart of Northbridge from 1936, and we pass on our enthusiasm for tradition and innovation in specialty coffee through this course that is ideal for beginners, coffee enthusiasts, and those who would like to break into the hospitality industry.
